ESRC Festival of Social Sciences webinar: Climate change and criminality. 

A significantly under-focused impact of global warming is the direct and indirect impacts it will have on criminal behaviour. In this interactive webinar a panel of experts discuss climate change and criminality. Speakers include Professor Siddhartha Bandyopadhyay (Director of the Centre for Crime, Justice and Policing), Professor Francis Pope (Professor of Atmospheric Science), David Lloyd (Police and Crime Commissioner, Hertfordshire), Cindy Buckley (Senior Operations Coordinator, Illicit Markets, Interpol).

Framing climate change: What inspires us to care?

This introduces an international experiment that tests whether framing climate change as an opportunity vs threat; an environmental vs health vs economic issue; now vs in the future; personal vs global; makes people more or less likely to support climate change policies.

The climate emergency: navigating cacophony with securitization theory

In this talk, Dr Floyd presents her original contribution to the use of securitization theory in the analysis of the politics of climate change, as she introduces an often-neglected categorization of actors in the securitization process.

Women, environment, and sustainability

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, mainly caused by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels. This event looks at the impact climate change is having on women, and innovative solutions being generated and researched into resolving this issue.

Speakers include the leadership team of UN Women UK from Baroness Verma, Chair of the Board and Claire Barnett, Executive Director, representatives from Eco-Sikh, Dr Husna Ahmad OBE, Chief Executive – Global One 2015, Honorary Fellow, Edward Cadbury Centre and our own Professor Aleks Cavoski presenting her research on gender perspectives in environmental and climate policies.
